TASAVEER TERI

I met Pradip through one of my good friends. He said, “Kaushi-ji there is someone I want you to meet, and he is interested in you singing with him”, I said, “sure”. I did not think of it much but when I saw his website and his blog I was thoroughly impressed, not because he got his site looking very cool with the animation but because the material that he had on it. He literally had put hundreds of hours worth of work, rich with not just music but information and insight. His diligence shows through his work. Pradip is one of very few people that is as versatile as he is, latest example of this is his ‘tears in heaven’. I am very privileged to sing with this unassuming but talented singer.Legendary music director Salil-Da’s beautiful composition ‘Tasaveer teri’ is our effort together.

Swati,

posting a comment here by my friend Pradeep which he sent me as he could not post since he is not a blogger!

Pradip & Swati:

Great duet and good singing of this song. You may or may not know that Mohd Rafi had a hard time when he sang this song.If you listen to the original Lata/Rafi duet, you will notice that Lata just breezes through this song. Rafi is more hesistant. At the recording, Lataji was getting impatient with Rafi (can you believe this ??) because he could
not sing his charanam properly (second stanza) even after so many tries ("takes") - " Tumse nazar jab gayi hai mil...." and "Jhuke Jahan Palke Teri" to the tune. Salil had placed so many twists (highs/lows) into the song that it was driving Rafi off and delaying the recording. After many tries..Rafi sort of got it and they recorded it.After this
song.Rafi had very few songs under Salil. The majority of his male
songs were then sung by Mukesh (and some by Manna Dey), till Yesudas towards the end. Lata and Salil had a great understanding and
relationship (similar to Madan Mohan). She could interpret any Salil song with minimum effort. The more Salil complicated the song...the more she relished the number. You can feel it in her singing of several classic Lata/Salil songs. The only other singer besides Lata who interpreted the "Salil tune" and sang them with gusto was Yesudas (I am not that familiar with Bengali singers since Salil originally composed most of his songs in Bengali). Here again...Yesudas/Salil had a great
understanding. Yesudas has said ..that when Salil and he sat together by a piano..and he heard Salil's compositions, it was a divine feeling. Salil was that versatile and fluent in both hindustani/carnatic and
western music. Yesudas said he never felt this way..the "divinity or music pouring from the heavens" feeling with any other composer. Others created great songs through a lot of hard work and polishing..but Salil's songs were just perfect the first time one heard it. A great compliment to a genius composer.

Great job by both you.

Pradip

Hi,
Very well sung duet from "Jhaya" made immortal by Salilda's fantastic blend of western and indian music. Swati's voice sounded a wee bit high pitched in parts, but overall a beautiful performance. Hope to hear more such duets from you two! Why not "Dil Dhadak Dhadak" from Madhumati? another outstanding movie full of superb songs!

Oops!
The movie is "Maya" and not Jhaya.
The song from latter ( I believe!) that I would like to here from Swati is "Jaare--- Jaare Ud jaare Panchi"
Best wishes to you, Swati!

hi stars,

You shine. This is a case where 2 stars get 5 stars. I liked Pradeep's voice more than KAushiji's voice in this. What a rendition pradeep ! Just awesome ! Rafi would be pleased !

There is an interesting thing about the bangla version of this song which is sung entirely by Lata herself. The line "tas-veer" in hindi has the sur - "rr - ri,gma" where as in the bangla version it is "rr - ri rgma". A subtle twist which only Lata can do so consistently. I am not surprised Rafi took a while to learn it. IT appears easy but it is a very difficult song.

And you both have done a great job. But I am going to crib on KAushiji's mic quality till she gets it right :)

Very nice!!! I would second Murali's observations though. Swati you need to get a new mic:)

Pradip:
Exceptional singing. Probably this is the one I liked the most, from you. Excellent !!

Swati:
Great singing. As others have mentioned, your voice is sounding too metallic to be true.
My request is, if you can, to record this song once more after you buy a new mic.

voice doesn't sound realistic. There is some chipmunk effect in recording. otherwise, all well.
